The Vernyoga 'Holectic' Massage
An Holistic Eclectic style Massage (the full body massage only available to women)Treatments are tailored to every client's specific need & physical characteristics. The key difference between a holistic massage and a standard massage is that a holistic massage is designed specifically for the individual and their ailment / requirement. A standard massage is more often than not a fixed routine.
Holistic massage evolved from the ancient massage therapies of Egyptian, Greek, Thai and Chinese civilisations, Swedish massage techniques, as well as from the principles of self-development disciplines such as Yoga and Thai-Chi. Holistic massage owes its development and popularity to the growing awareness of complementary therapies during the last few decades and draws on other therapeutic models. The human body instantly responds to touch. Rubbing affected muscles and joints gives relief through the release of natural pain-killing chemicals (called endorphins). Touch can also give comfort by reducing emotional stress and mental strain.Holistic massage treats the individual as a whole and aims to improve physical, mental and emotional well-being through touch.
Your holistic massage will take place in a warm and relaxing environment. Your therapist will spend time during your first appointment questioning you about your medical history, general health, lifestyle and sleep patterns.During your massage, the therapist will use their fingers, knuckles, hands and elbows to apply various massage techniques around the body. They may apply pressure and stroking movements (called 'effleurage') using their fingers and palms. As the session progresses, deeper pressure (called 'petrissage') may be applied to stretch out and separate muscle tissue and encourage better circulation of fluids in the body. The method used for deep tissue massage (called 'frictions') involves breaking down built up scar tissue and separation of muscle fibres. This can sometimes be uncomfortable but the therapist will not go beyond your comfort zone and will always ask how you prefer a massage to be.

Applied Yoga (Thai Yoga Massage)
This type of Massage is more of a physical manipulation of the body that makes use of soft pressure applied by the hands, thumbs, elbows and feet with passive stretching. It is usually carried out on the floor on a mat & can best be described as energising & relaxing. This is also called, Thai Massage. Thai Yoga, Yogic Osteopathy, 'passive yoga' or ‘lazy yoga’ as it involves the therapist easing the client into yoga style stretching and aiming for a deeper stretch by applying gentle pressure with synchronised breathing. It is practised on a mat on the floor. There is no need for the use of oil and the client wears loose, warm and comfortable clothes that don’t restrict movement. It is best to avoid heavy meals before the treatment. It helps with: Improving flexibility
Relief of muscular pain·
Improved circulation·
Improved function of internal organs·
Enhanced well-being·
Increased vitality·
Relief from pregnancy-related stresses
This type of therapy has proven useful for a range of musculo-skeletal problems including lower back pain and sciatica-type pain, neck and shoulder tension, over-use injuries, and joint arthritis. It is also useful for treating circulatory problems, headaches, insomnia, menstrual problems, digestive disorders and asthma.
I was taught the techniques as Yogic Osteopathy (during my Yoga Therapy training) and later as Thai Massage and there really isn't a lot of difference.
A full medical history would be taken before any treatment is undertaken and it is wise to check with your GP or Physio before undertaking any form of exercise or therapy for any contraindications.

Thai Hand and Foot Massage
Developed from traditional Thai massage but also incorporates elements of Reflexology, Ayurvedic and Chinese medicines and is localised to the feet, lower legs and hands, working on acupressure points and energy (Sen) lines to relieve tired feet, improve energy and circulation, increase vitality, relieve stress and tension in the muscles and stimulation of the lymphatic system which aids drainage of excess fluids and aid overall well being and relaxation. The client lies on the couch whilst the therapist works on the legs and then the feet. The major section of the massage is the foot section during which pressure points are stimulated either with the fingers and thumbs or with a Thai stick and the joints and muscles are manipulated. The treatment ends with a hand massage that is similar, but shorter, to the foot massage.
Traditionally, hot herbal compresses are used but due to many allergies, the therapist has added in the bonus (if you would like) to have your feet in heated booties prior to the foot treatment. This is generally not part of the massage but is down to client's preference.

Abdominal Massage
Helps with digestion, bloating, gas, constipation, serotonin stimulation as well as toning for the abs and skin. The therapist will often combine the use of a rolled up small towel under the belly which the client lays on and is moved every 1-2minutes to a different place and then the therapist will massage the tummy from the lower right with oil, following the path of the colon over to the left. Sometimes it can be a little uncomfortable, but the client can give feedback to the therapist on how it's feeling.
By relaxing and stimulating these areas, blood flow increases and energy balance is restored within the charkas (energy centres in the body). This removes stress and anxiety and flushes toxins from the body.
The client may keep underwear on as a towel can be tucked in to protect clothing should the client wish. It advised to not eat a big meal within 2 hours of having the massage to avoid feeling nauseous.
